How will the Management Competency Framework and the indicator tool be useful to me as an HR professional?

The Framework and associated tools are designed to help you support your line managers to become more effective at preventing and reducing stress. They can help in two broad ways, within people management and within stress management processes

The Framework and tools can be particularly useful when integrated into people management processes. For example:
  • Using Management Competency tools such as 360 feedback as part of leadership and management development programmes
  • Raising awareness of good stress management behaviours in induction programmes
  • Promoting better manager self-awareness throughout the organization
  • Supporting managers in areas where the risk of stress is higher
  • Supporting aspiring managers in developing good stress management skills and behaviours that will enable them to enhance well-being and performance in years to come

The Framework and tools can help with stress management processes in various ways:
  • To review and update existing policies on managing stress / well-being at work, and inform other HR policies such as absence management, bullying and equal opportunities
  • To help with action planning following stress surveys / risk assessments
  • Improving stress management at a local / team level, using the tool as an individual diagnostic
  • As an assessment and management tool in areas where stress is known to be a problem
  • As a mechanism for tackling specific psychosocial hazards, such as low perceived management support or lack of control
  • To ensure involvement and engagement of the line manager in stress management processes.
